Obama's First State Dinner Proves Easy Access

Earlier this week, President Obama hosted his first state dinner at the White House, in honour of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.  The prestigious event that honed heavy security drew a large crowd of over 300 prominent guests.  Michaele and Tareq Salahi, a Virginian couple were not on the guest list, but managed to slip through the tight security.  Although harmless guests, this breech of security measure has caused quite a stir.  How did they manage to fool the so called security team on duty that night?

It seems, the couple waltzed into the event exuding confidence, fratenizing, and taking advantage of photo ops with the likes of Vice President Joe Biden (featured in the picture with the Salahi's), White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty, and CBS News anchor Katie Couric.  The funny part is that the Secret Service learned about this the next day after being alerted that the couple had posted pictures and boasts of attending the state dinner on Facebook.  The rumour is that the couple is set to have roles in an upcoming reality television show called "The Real House Wives of Washington".

I suspect someone's job will be on the chopping block over this one.  This definitely puts egg on the face of the White House security team.  As for the couple, they got their fifteen minutes of fame, but may possibly face some kind of legal repercussions.

That is perhaps one of the scariest senarios of our generation.

Fame seekers like as in this case have no possible clue about the mandate of The United States Secret Service, the Presidental security detail ... who's orders are to protect the President at all possible costs, one of those mandates is to kill any suspected threat on site, without negotiation, without hesitation, and with extreme predijuice.

This couple looking for some noteriety has absolutely no idea as to what kind of rouble they are in. A breach of security is noted as a threat to the country... even to go as far as calling it treason.

You may remember many years ago when a protester on the East coast laid his hands upon our then Prime Minister Jean Cretien during a rally, our leader himself was forced to deal with the potential threat. The RCMP security detail took almost 6 seconds to respond to aid the P.M.

If this had been a United States President, that man would have been blocked, shot, tackled and escorted propmply away from the scene.... straigh to a maximum security facility.

Definite egg on faces. Security will certainly be scrutinzied for this event. The question IS how they got got past 'security'. Could they have known someone on that team? Was security distracted? However, the fact that they sauntered in confidently tells us these people spent a lot of time planning this. Not an easy feat to pull off.....or is it?

Was this a purposeful test to see how safe the new president Actually is? Or was this just a moment of of bad security.
I do know the more publicity they get is exactly what those 'nobody's' are after.

It is sad...the 'attention (fame) seeekers', as Matthew.67 says, are bordering on stalking and we seem to glorify it. On talk shows, in the newspaper, on the radio and here, on the net. Scary or Stupid?

Even my response generates attention to it. hmmmm

I liked your blog about it.
